Internet connectivity issues can cause inconvenience and might even cost you your job in some instances. These issues cannot be taken for granted whatsoever! Knowing how to troubleshoot any internet connection issue can save you time, energy, and money as well. Troubleshooting procedures are very easy, and anyone with a bit of knowledge about it can perform these and fix internet issues easily. There might still be a need to contact your broadband provider if you can’t resolve the problem on your end. But that must be considered as the last resort!
To troubleshoot your internet connectivity issues, follow the steps below:
Restart your Router
Restarting the router most of the time resolves the internet connectivity issues at your home. To do so, you will simply turn off the router with the help of the power button available on the top of the router or beside the cables connected to your router. After turning it off from the power button, unplug the router and wait for at least 10 seconds.
Re-plug the router in the socket and turn on the device by pressing the power button again. The router will take around 30 seconds to a minute to start and function completely. Check the internet connection again on your device. If this doesn’t solve your problem, then move to the next solution.
Check Internet Connection Light
All modern routers are equipped with LED lights, notifying the internet and Wi-Fi signal strengths. Check the internet connection light on your router, which is usually labeled with Internet, WAN, or a globe icon. In usual cases, the internet connection light is always on or blinking.
If this light is off or red, there is an internet connection issue, and you can use your device to troubleshoot the problem. We will discuss the process of troubleshooting with your computer later. If the light is on as usual, move to the next point.
Check Wi-Fi Connection Light
There might be an issue with your router transmitting the Wi-Fi signals. For this, you will have to check the Wi-Fi connection light on your router. These lights are usually labeled with WLAN on the device. If the lights are on and blinking, then it means that there is no issue with the device and the transmission of Wi-Fi signals.
If the lights are off or red, then you must call your internet provider to seek further help. But if the lights are on and blinking normally, you must consider testing with an ethernet cable.
Use Ethernet Cable
There are several ethernet cable ports available on the router. Through these, you can connect your computer to the internet with the help of an ethernet cable. Ethernet cables provide a better bandwidth than Wi-Fi which results in a better internet experience on your devices.
Connect one end of the ethernet cable in your computer and the other to the ethernet port on the device. Check if the internet is working fine with the cable connected. If it is working fine, then there must be an issue with your router, and you can contact your provider. If it is still not working, you must run a troubleshooter on your computer to let it fix the issue.
Troubleshooter on Windows Computer
You can run the troubleshooter on your windows computer in the following simple and easy way:
a. Click on the Start icon at the bottom left corner of the screen.
b. Select the Update & Security option.
c. Select the troubleshooter for the internet connection option.
The system will run a diagnosis and hopefully, the internet issue will be resolved with the help of your computer.
Troubleshooter on Apple Computer
You can easily run the troubleshooter on your Apple computer in the following steps:
a. Disconnect ethernet cable or external drivers
b. Restart the computer.
c. Hold down the D key.
d. Select the language
The diagnosis will launch on your computer, which will fix the possible issues with your internet (if possible)
