What is the RPSC syllabus?

The Rajasthan Public Service Commission Exam or RPSC is a state-level exam that enables candidates to secure employment within various departments of the Rajasthan government. Some of these departments include Teaching, Medical Emergency, Construction, Engineering, Water Resources, Town Planning, and Panchayat Raj. Additionally, recruitment to the Rajasthan Administrative Services (RAS) and the Rajasthan Taxation Services (RTS) also takes place through this exam. Syllabus of the RPSC Exam:

The RPSC RAS Examination has two stages – Prelims and Mains. Below, we’ll address the RPSC syllabus of each stage.

1.Prelims:

The first stage of the RPSC RAS Exam is called Prelims (or preliminary exam). This consists of only one paper, General Knowledge and General Science. A total of 150 objective questions related to these topics are posed to the candidates. All of them carry equal marks. There is negative marking, and for every wrong response, a ⅓ mark is deducted.  This paper carries a maximum of 200 marks. Candidates get three hours to attempt this paper. The topics that comprise the Prelims syllabus are:

  • History, Art, Culture, Literature, Tradition & Heritage of Rajasthan
  • Indian History
  • Geography of World and India
  • Geography of Rajasthan
  • Indian Constitution, Political System & Governance
  • Political and Administrative System of Rajasthan
  • Economic Concepts and Indian Economy
  • Economy of Rajasthan
  • Science & Technology
  • Reasoning & Mental Ability
  • Current Affairs

2 Mains:

Candidates qualifying the Prelims stage get to sit for the Mains paper. Mains consists of four papers- General Studies-I, General Studies-II, General Studies-III, General Hindi, and General English. All the questions asked here are descriptive or analytical in nature. Each individual paper carries a maximum of 200 marks, and the time allowed for each is three hours.

The breakdown of the syllabus of each paper is as follows:

  • Paper-I (General Studies-I) comprises three units.
    • Unit I: History. It has three parts.
      • Part A: History, Art, Culture, Literature, Tradition, and Heritage of Rajasthan
      • Part B:  Indian History & Culture
      • Part C: History of the Modern World (up to 1950 AD)
    • Unit II: Economics. It comprises three parts
      • Part A: Indian Economy
      • Part B: World Economy
      • Part C: Economy of Rajasthan
    • Unit III: Sociology, Management, Accounting & Auditing. This unit, too, has three parts.
      • Part A: Sociology
      • Part B: Management
      • Part C: Accounting & Auditing
  • Paper-II (General Studies-II) has three units.
    • Unit I: Administrative Ethics
    • Unit II: General Science & Technology
    • Unit III: Earth  Science (Geography & Geology). This unit has three parts.
      • Part A: World
      • Part B: India
      • Part C: Rajasthan
  • Paper-III (General Studies-III) has three units as well.
    • Unit I: Indian Political System, World Politics and Current Affairs
    • Unit II: Concepts, Issues and Dynamics of Public Administration and Management
    • Unit III: Sports and Yoga, Behavior and Law. The last unit of Paper-III consists of three parts.
      • Part A: Sports and Yoga
      • Part B: Behavior
      • Part C: Law
  • Paper-IV (General Hindi and General English) has two sections each for General Hindi and General English.
    • General Hindi has three parts dealing with grammar, comprehension, and composition.
    • General English has three parts, which are as follows:
      • Part A: Grammar & Usage
      • Part B:  Comprehension, Translation & Precis Writing
      • Part C: Composition & Letter Writing
